About Us
The word "Presbyterian" is the Greek word for Elder. We are a Presbyterian church which means we are led by a team of Elders we call the Session. The Session is made up of one teaching elder (the Pastor) and several ruling elders that are elected by the congregation. Elders serve for 3 year terms. The Elders are the primary decision-making team for the congregation and oversee the Spiritual health and growth of the church family. A team of Deacons serves the physical needs of the congregation and the local community by visiting those who are sick and providing meals for members just home from the hospital. We also have several committees that help plan the various ministries and activities of the congregation.

Our Story
First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1882. The first services were held every other week in the schoolhouse one mile south of the city. The current building was purchased for $500 from a congregation in De Soto, IA in June of 1882 and moved from De Soto to Grimes on skids. The fellowship hall, kitchen and classrooms were added in 1962. Since 1884 the bell in the church tower has rung out over the city announcing the start of Sunday worship.
